My name is Álex Roda. I was born in Madrid to a Spanish father and a French mother. Fascinated by forms, I have always looked closely at the world, and so after an early phase as a translator, I went back to school to study interior architecture and graphic and publication design. For years I have jumped between these fields, and surface pattern design is my latest stop on this long journey. It’s the best way I know to distill all I have learned. It’s also the place where I’d like to stay, dressing up the spaces occupied by adults and children with simple geometric organic shapes. I’m inspired by the abstract forms of nature, bold and delicate —opposing facets which, when properly worked, are able to coexist harmoniously in a pattern.
